Terms of Use (Beta)
Last updated: 17 July 2026
These terms apply to the Dance Companion mobile app during its private beta, and related services on www.dancecompanion.co.uk. Dance Companion is operated by Blackpool Dance Store (Blackpool, England).
By creating an account or using the beta you confirm that you have read and agree to these terms and our Privacy Policy.
1. Beta software
Dance Companion is pre-release software. Features may change, break, or be removed without notice. Data you enter during the beta may be reset as we improve the app. Please do not rely on the app as your only record of competition results or training notes during this phase.
2. Who the beta is for
The current beta is intended for invited dancers, teachers, and parents connected with our pilot partner studios (including Young's Academy of Dance). Access may be withdrawn at any time.
3. Accounts for dancers under 16
- Dancers under 16 must register using a parent or legal guardian's email address.
- That guardian must verify the email address before the account can be used.
- Date of birth and guardian login email cannot be changed in the app without contacting us.
- Community features use opt-in school connections; the school noticeboard is for 16+ only; and off-app social contact links are turned off for junior accounts during the beta.
- We may restrict or remove accounts where safeguarding information appears inaccurate or incomplete.
Registering a child with a false date of birth or an email address that does not belong to a parent or guardian is not permitted.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Upload offensive, unlawful, or inappropriate profile photos or content.
- Attempt to access another person's account or data.
- Use the app to harass, bully, or contact other users outside approved features.
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or overload our systems.
5. Your content
You keep ownership of content you create (for example journal notes and routines). You give us permission to store and display that content so the app can work. Profile photos and public directory submissions may be shown as part of the service you request.
6. Competition and directory information
Competition listings may include publicly available information (dates, venues, organisers' websites). Poster images and programme links help dancers plan their season. School and competition submissions are reviewed before publication. If you are an organiser or school and want content amended or removed, contact us.
7. Preloved marketplace
Preloved listings submitted through Dance Companion are reviewed before going live. Sellers must only list items they own (or have permission to sell). Photos should be accurate; where a child appears in a photo, sellers should obscure faces before upload using the privacy tools provided. Platform fees and fulfilment arrangements are described on the preloved pages at the time of listing.
8. Limitation of liability
Dance Companion is provided “as is” during beta. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from use of the app or website, including missed entries, incorrect competition details, or data loss. Always confirm critical dates and rules with your teacher or the event organiser.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be limited under English law.
9. Changes and contact
We may update these terms as the beta progresses. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated terms. Questions or safeguarding concerns: contact@dancecompanion.co.uk
Governing law: England and Wales.
