Questions: contact@dancecompanion.co.uk
1. Who is responsible for your data
Blackpool Dance Limited is the data controller for Dance Companion. We process personal data in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Our ICO registration number is ZC063110.
2. What we collect
Depending on how you use Dance Companion, we may collect:
- Account details — username, name, date of birth, email address, password (stored securely by our auth provider), dance profile fields.
- Safeguarding information for under-16s — parent/guardian email used at registration, and confirmation that the account is for a junior dancer.
- Content you add — profile photos, competition results, journal notes, routines, calendar pins, connections, and noticeboard posts where those features are enabled.
- Directory submissions — school or competition details you submit for review (including logos/posters and contact details).
- Preloved listings — seller name, email, item details, and photos you upload (including any privacy edits you make before upload).
- Technical data — basic logs needed to run and secure the service (for example device/app errors and server logs).
3. Why we use your data
- To create and manage your account and provide the app features you use.
- To support safeguarding for dancers under 16 during the beta.
- To review and publish directory and preloved submissions you ask us to list.
- To respond to enquiries and support requests.
- To keep the service secure, fix bugs, and improve Dance Companion.
- Where required, to meet legal obligations (for example responding to a lawful request).
Our legal bases are typically contract (providing the service you signed up for), legitimate interests (running a secure product and public directory), and where needed consent (for example optional profile photos or marketing you opt into). For under-16 accounts we also rely on parental/guardian involvement at registration.
4. Children and safeguarding
Dance Companion is designed with junior dancers in mind. During the private beta, dancers under 16 must register with a parent or legal guardian’s email address. We may restrict or remove accounts where safeguarding information appears inaccurate or incomplete.
We do not knowingly allow under-16s to register using their own email without a guardian. If you believe a child has registered incorrectly, contact us immediately.
5. Where your data is stored
App and submission data is stored using Supabase (secure cloud database and storage). Website hosting is provided by our web host (currently Vercel). Email delivery for marketplace and admin notifications may use a transactional email provider.
Some providers may process data outside the UK. Where that happens, we use providers that offer appropriate safeguards under UK data protection law.
6. Who we share data with
We do not sell personal data.
- Service providers who help us host and run Dance Companion (for example database, storage, email).
- Preloved buyers/sellers — buyer enquiries are relayed privately; seller emails are not shown publicly on listings.
- Public directory — school/competition details you ask us to publish appear on the website (and may sync from our review sheets).
- Law enforcement or regulators if required by law.
7. How long we keep data
We keep account and app data while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards if needed for security, dispute handling, or legal requirements. Beta data may be reset as we improve the product — we will be clear when that happens. Directory and listing submissions are kept as needed to run those services.
8. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete data (in some circumstances)
- Restrict or object to certain processing
- Receive a copy of data you provided (data portability), where applicable
Email contact@dancecompanion.co.uk. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. Our registration number with the ICO is ZC063110.
9. Cookies and analytics
The marketing site uses essential cookies needed to run the site (for example admin session cookies). We do not currently run advertising trackers on dancecompanion.co.uk. If that changes, we will update this policy.
10. Changes
We may update this policy as Dance Companion develops. The “Last updated” date above will change when we do. Significant changes will be highlighted in the app or on the site where practical.
